The Crown City Rockers are the band I have been hoping would emerge out of the rubble of Hiphop since Talib Kweli turned “jiggy”. For those who do not know, the Crown City Rockers are a live band of really nice folks, immersed in the themes of Hiphop at its best. Raashan (the MC) has been a bboy since way back, and uses this to keep the band in check, making sure there is enough to dance to. The band in turn keeps Raashan in check when it comes to musical influence and the right sound. Together they rock shows and crowds around the world, while having a great time, and providing a wonderful thing: access to the positive Hiphop culture.Myself and Bri Cooney caught up with them at the Elbo Room, in San Francisco’s
Mission district and asked a few questions about the band. Crown City consists of Rashaan Ahmad (MC), Max on Drums,Woodstock on the sampler, Kat on keys, and Headnodic on Bass.
